HAPPY LITTLE ACCIDENTS

The subject of my next portrait has been quietly in the background of our lives for years relaxing us with his gentle cadence of speech and charming quotes. He is now a pop culture figure whose iconic image can be seen on socks, games, t-shirts, memes, and his own brand of art supplies.

He is none other than BOB ROSS! There is so much to love here! He was a simple man, a lover of nature, and passionate about art. He spent his adult life sharing his passion in a way that felt easy and attainable for the layperson watching. Have you ever watched him paint a happy little tree? It’s just magical. He stands the test of time as new generations enjoy watching him. My son is totally transfixed. Some people enjoy napping to him. That’s o.k. too! The point is he brought joy to so many just by honoring his unique-ness and sharing it with all of us. Plus c’mon, that PERM!!!!

His blue shirt was just a series of different colored blue straight stitches to capture the creases and shadows.

You guys, the PERM!!!!!

Face close up.

Lots shades of color in that glorious hair.

Beard. The lips and teeth are always so challenging. Teeth and lips can definitely make or break a painting by looking false and comical.

……and DONE.

I am really tempted to add a watercolor behind him by using actual watercolor paint on the background fabic and/or adding a splash of paint trailing behind his brush. So hard to take risks like this when you’ve put in 45 plus hours and being terrified of wrecking it!

Thanks, as always for stopping by and joining me on my portrait adventures!

Please message me if you have a commission idea for the holidays!
Warmly,

Pam
