EASY FABRIC MAGNETS

August 1, 2017

Have a bunch of old fridge magnets hanging around? You know the kind you get in an advertising mailer? Well here is way you can use your scraps and make something practical at the same time.

Grab some old magnets, fabric scraps and *interfacing (optional). I used some calendar magnets which I cut in different sizes. I am using light colored fabric and dark magnets so I added the interfacing to offset the dark color.

I started by fusing the fabric to the interfacing.

Get some wax paper to protect the surface you are working on. Get some mod podge or watered down school glue and with an old paintbrush, smear it generously on the magnet.

Lay your fabric right side up on the magnet and generously apply more glue or mod podge to the the surface of the fabric, smoothing out any wrinkles as you go. The fabric is slightly larger than the magnet so there is some overhang which will be trimmed at the end. Let it dry completely. Mine was ready in a couple of hours. Once it has dried, carefully trim around the edges.

Add some ribbon or embellishments.

In the picture above, I glued a folded ribbon onto the magnet, then the fabric on top of that. I added a lace embellishment to finish it off. The loop can be used to hold a pen or marker on the fridge.

I added pom-poms and even some embroidery.

Thanks for stopping by!

Warmly,

Pam
