THREAD PORTRAIT OF A UNIQUE SOUL

My next portrait subject is someone that only recently came to my attention but he’s been around a little while. His comedy is so quirky and unexpected and then when you hear his backstory you just can’t help but adore this guy! He is the uniquely talented RON FUNCHES.

Ron grew up in the south side of Chicago. This sensitive soul could not find his place there; a gentle giant with one of the most infectious giggles I have ever heard.

The thing I admire most about Ron, besides his unique take on comedy, is his constant pursuit of self improvement.

He made a very challenging career choice which took so much bravery and he’s killin it!

He is a single father to an autistic son, who often comes up in his comedy.

He lost 140 pounds!!!!! AMAZING! I am always amazed at someone’s ability to deal with something that, at the beginning, must seem like the absolute Mount Everest of accomplishments and break it down into teeny baby steps over long periods of time. That takes such discipline and foresight. Wow, I really admire that.

Mostly, I love that he is able to celebrate his ‘one of a kind’ self and let us celebrate that with him.

He loves the Great Brit Bake off (SO DO I) and I LOVE LUCY (ME TOO!) Seriously what’s not to love about this guy?

He has a lovely podcast called “Gettin Better” where he starts off with positive affirmations and then interviews various friends, family, and comedians to find out their tips on self improvement. Isn’t that the best? If you ever need a pick me up, or just want to hear the best giggle ever, it’s a great listen.

He has a comedy special appropriately named GIGGLE FIT which is available on Comedy Central and Amazon Prime.

I have such love for this portrait because it was one of my most challenging to date.

There were so many colors in his richly complex skin tone.

I had sew over many layers to finally achieve something I felt satisfied with.

Here is a shot I took outside. I am always amazed how different kinds of lighting really changes the effect of how we perceive color. These portraits look so different in person. They are hard to capture in a photo.

Thanks for indulging me in my ongoing portrait making journey. I am learning so much and hope maybe you are too .

I will be taking a portrait break next week to do a couple of fun crafty projects.

If you interested in a commissioned portrait, please message me. I really love making these!

Have a wonderful rest of your week!

Warmly,

Pam
