STUMPWORK PART TWO: A BALL OF FLOWERS AND LEAVES

To continue from last post on stumpwork, today I will show you two new ways to make dimensional embroidery. One is an charming ball of flowers and the other example is making a wire leaf. These look so nice together, you could make a sweet little bouquet with leaves.

EXAMPLE 1: BALL OF FLOWERS

I used a small scrap which was a mistake! Use a piece of fabric that you can put tightly into a hoop and you can cut it later. You will see what I mean here…….

Trim the excess fabric at the bottom.

Next, the sloppy job of attaching the ball of flowers to the surface fabric. I came in from the back of the hoop with my needle and grabbed bits of the end of the flower ball then put the needle back down into the fabric . I did this all the way around the ball to secure it evenly.

Here is a side view.

Ok, so now let’s get to EXAMPLE 2: LEAVES

For this next project I used 20 inch wire. Covered wire can be found in the floral section of the craft store. You can try to match the wire to the color you will be using but I used gold (because I had some lying around for some reason.)

Ok, I hope you enjoyed learning some stumpwork techniques. I am looking forward to experimenting with my new tools!

Thanks for stopping by!

Warmly,

Pam
