In the last post we we worked through the feather stitch and the double feather stitch.
Today I would like to show you two variations and some ways to embellish this stitch.
This is simply another way of making a feather stitch. instead of using three lines, make four. Start by bringing your needle up at line "2".
So that is just another variation of the feather stitch. I'd like to show you one more. This next example will show you how to make the feather stitch on a straight line.
In the straight line feather stitch the loops all face one direction.
It's such a pretty stitch. Once you get rolling, you won't need all those guidelines. Let your fingers do the talkin'. This stitch is wonderful for decorative borders. Many people use it for quilting. I think it looks like branches or stems. The double feather makes me think of an underwater scene.
Here is an example of what you can do to embellish this stitch. Add the STRAIGHT STITCH to the ends to resemble tiny buds, as shown on the left. Next, add some cross stitches and FRENCH KNOTS. To the far right, I have added the LAZY DAISY stitch to form little petals. Aren't those sweet?
Grab a pair of jeans to practice on. I think the feather stitch looks amazing layered; even better with variegated thread where the color shifts in a subtle, lovely way.
